Reading—the key to wisdom!

Investing

Warren Buffett is one of the most prolific investors of our time. Not only does he attain above-average returns, but he also dispenses wisdom to anyone willing to listen. One of my favorite pieces of advice that he has given is to “Read 500 pages every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest.”When I was younger, I liked to read fiction, but non-fiction was tough to swallow. I mean, who wants to spend their afternoon reading about economics and personal finance? I didn’t! I spent years avoiding non-fiction. However, fast forward to now, I can’t get enough of it! The difference for me was audiobooks.I know there are many tactile people out there who like to touch the physical pages of a book, so the idea of an e-book or audiobook is abhorrent. But, for me, it was a game-changer. I spend a lot of time in my car, so audiobooks were a natural next step. I now aim to read 4-5 books per month and wish I had more time to read even more!In my experience, the more I read, the wiser I become—this is because there are many great thinkers out there who have accumulated practical experience and knowledge over the years, and they are willing to share everything they know with you for just a few bucks! Now, if only I could get someone to create an audiobook of Poor Charlie’s Almanack, that would be fantastic!Warren Buffet says of reading “All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.” If you haven’t given audiobooks a try, you may want to experiment with an audiobook service such as Audible.com to see if you can step up your reading!
